The Setup Assistant helps you make sure everything is working fine. That might mean using a laptop or having a very long USB cable running across the floor. Because you connect the EyeTV HD to a set-top box, you’ll obviously need a Mac within USB-cable range of one TV in your abode.
I tested the EyeTV HD with an H20 HD receiver from DirecTV, connected to a new Core i5 2.53GHz 17-inch MacBook Pro ( ). Audio is limited to stereo via RCA-style analog connections. Elgato also includes a breakout cable for composite and S-Video connections. Component video (and therefore the EyeTV HD) supports up to 1080i resolution. Because HDMI connections employ copy protection, the EyeTV HD uses analog component video connections with your set-top box to take advantage of the so-called “analog loophole”-signals sent over the analog output aren’t encrypted.
